Dermal Fillers

As we grow up, our bodies begin to change and show the telltale signs of age. One of the most common places where this occurs is in the face. Because the face is the most seen part of the body, many people try to keep the appearance youthful. However, as we age certain changes like wrinkles, crow’s feet, and smile lines inevitably occur. But one way to combat this would be to use dermal fillers to temporarily reverse these signs of aging. At Renew Beauty Med Spa in Dallas, we have treated many patients with dermal fillers and have helped them regain their youthful appearance. If you want to know more about what dermal fillers are, please read below to determine if they would be right for you.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are either natural or synthetic material which is administered into the skin via injection to smooth the area. It effectively plumps hollow areas or areas where wrinkles have occurred to make it even with the surrounding skin. However, they are not in the family with botulin injections which stop movement of the muscle to prevent wrinkles. Dermal fillers come in two variations, there is either synthetic or natural.

How do Dermal Fillers Work?

They work by augmenting, plumping, filling out, or lifting the skin. They give the skin a more natural appearance when applied to certain areas of the face. Because they do not interfere with muscle movement in the face, many people prefer them to botulin injections. More common areas for the injections are in acne scars, thin lips, smile lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet. These areas are the most common areas that show the effects of aging in the face.

Depending on the type of dermal filler that is chosen the effects can either be permanent, semi-permanent, or temporary.

What are the effects of Dermal Fillers?

The effects of dermal fillers are pretty much all the same. They all unanimously work to smooth and plump up the skin. However, the difference between the fillers is how long each of them will last. When it comes to the synthetic fillers, they can last up to five years or even longer. This is because they are seen as ‘permanent’ fillers. Natural fillers on the other hand last for anywhere from six months to two years. The natural fillers also need to have a follow up injection within a year of the original to keep up the appearance.

What are the results?

The results of the fillers effectively restore the face to a more youthful appearance. Once injected into the face, the results can be seen almost immediately. So there is no real wait time to see the treatment take effect. Unlike the botulin injections which takes anywhere from 2 to 3 days for effects to take hold. It also depends on where the filler was injected into the face that determine the results. If injected into the hollow and crow’s feet, the effect would be a more even dermal plane. If it was the lips that were treated they are going to become fuller, plumper and create a more symmetrical looking face. With most results, the results of the fillers depend on what the patient is looking for; as well as the experience of the doctor that is performing the procedure.
